When the Perito Moreno Glacier Walks Run

Hielo y Aventura runs its Minitrekking in every month of the year, so the Mini-Trek is the walk on the ice you can book whenever you come. Big Ice runs only from 15 September to 30 April, and Minitrekking2 from 15 August to 31 May (Hielo y Aventura’s rates page for 2026/27, read November 2026). The Mini-Trek is from US$346 a person (checked November 2026) for the 4.5-hour option from the port.

Each walk’s season

Hielo y Aventura adds that Minitrekking2 departures in May depend on the weather and the state of the ground in winter conditions. One seller of the short walk, Tangol, runs its Minitrekking day daily from the beginning of August to the first days of June, so check the calendar of whichever listing you pick.

What the calendars showed when we read them: on 25 and 30 November 2026 the Mini-Trek’s walk from the port was on sale but its 10-hour pickup day was not; on 20 January and 27 March 2027 both were. Big Ice could not be booked on 27 or 30 November 2026, and on 20 January 2027 only its option with transport was on sale. Book once your dates are fixed: free cancellation up to 24 hours before leaves room to change your mind.

The park’s season

The Administración de Parques Nacionales recommends visiting Los Glaciares between September and April. It warns that the winds are strong in summer and the nights cool even then, and that from May to October temperatures are low and snow is abundant, mostly in winter (APN, read November 2026). We do not print a month-by-month climate table: the wind and cloud on your walking day matter more than the averages.

The road to the port has access hours. From 1 September to 30 April you enter the Perito Moreno corridor between 8:00 and 18:00 and may stay until 20:00; from 1 May to 31 August you enter between 9:00 and 16:00 and may stay until 18:00 (APN, read November 2026). In winter the park requires winter tyres or chains on its roads, which is one more reason to take the pickup option then.

Rain and wind

Rain does not cancel the walks: the Mini-Trek and Big Ice are not cancelled for rain, and Hielo y Aventura’s walks go ahead whenever safety conditions allow; if Big Ice is cancelled, the passenger receives a full refund. Bring rain gear and gloves: both are on the Mini-Trek’s list of things to bring.

Weather shapes the day more on Big Ice than on the Mini-Trek. Its one one-star review (19 December 2025) came from a rainy, windy, cold day with a long, fast approach to the ice; the Mini-Trek’s hour on the ice comes after a short shore walk.
